Chance Camp also offers a yearly programme for Gifted and Talented Pupils:

The Allerdale Multi Skill Academy

Thank you to Firpress Printers for their kind sponsorship for 2018.

The four day programme during the second week of the Easter holidays has been designed to provide boys and girls (Year 2 to Year 6) the opportunity to learn and develop fundamental movement and sport skills which will help them to improve their sporting performance and set them on the pathway to sporting success.

Our professional coaching team delivers coaching sessions in Allerdale Schools all year round and will highlight Gifted and Talented pupils to teachers based on the following abilities:

  • PHYSICAL

  • COGNITIVE

  • CREATIVE

  • PERSONAL

  • SOCIAL

Schools can also use their own assessment procedures and other external sporting organisations to help identify their pupils to attend.

The Multi Skill Academy aims to build on the physical education and sport delivery that young people receive in schools and community settings. The programme ensures existing and new skills and techniques are enhanced and the young athletes can apply these across a range of different sports.

Our model is about encouraging athletes and educating parents not to specialise in individual sports until they reach the end of Key Stage 3. Primary School aged children need to secure the building blocks pf sporting performance with sporting skills such as running, jumping, throwing and fundamental movements within agility and balance.

During the four days the athlete and coach produce assessments of performance to highlight where the athlete currently is with their development and areas to focus on. For the model to work children need to share this information with parents, schools and community clubs and use the 12 months between each academy to develop the identified areas.

We hope children who attend this academy in Year 2 will then be with us each year until they leave for Secondary School physical education and community sport.
