Virtual School Competitions

Wright Sport Services will be using our new 5S Programme, designed by our coaches during lockdown 2020, to deliver generic fitness challenges for the pupils we visit across Allerdale. This page will promote results from other providers which will be facilitated by Linda Borthwick.

Our 5S programme is designed to develop children's Speed, Stamina, Suppleness, Strength and Skills. We are using these challenges in all the schools we work in over the next academic year. At the end of each half term, we will display winning scores for each year group, the school the pupil represents and the pupils name if consent is provided.

Chance Camp delivers 5 Stars 5 Steps

Chance Camp coaches use the 5 Star 5 Steps programme to allow children to test their running, jumping and throwing skills which are developed through the school year using the 5S programme. The table below shows our best performers. This programme is also a fantastic resource allowing children of all ages and abilities to challenge their personal best scores. Play Time Leaders

Over the years our Play Time Leaders programme has been hugely successful. It is apart of the School Sport Partnership and we deliver this in schools across Allerdale. This includes a 6 hour course to upskill years 5/6 for delivering activities to other pupils, which includes the organisation of timetables, equipment and activity plans.

Linda Borthwick from the Allerdale School Sport Partnership has very kindly funded a 1 day pass for Chance Camp for a stand out play time leader pupil, to come along to coach the Didi Stars or take part with their age group. Each term this will be awarded to a pupil that has shown fantastic leadership skills, including organisational skills, confidence, team work and are identified as Gifted and Talented within Physical Education and Sport.

This terms winner is a fantastic young leader called Pip from Bridekirk Dovenby School. She has shown fantastic teamwork, determination, passion and confidence when delivering activities to others. This is within sport leadership and the work undertaken with Ellie Hodgson. Ellie asked Pip questions relating to why she wants to be a young leader and her brilliant answers you can see below. Well done Pip! We look forward to working with you in half term!

Questions Answer
Why would you like to be a young leader? Pip – “Because I think there are a lot of kids that need encouragement and support, so I am here for them, to help them to be brave and encourage them to try new things”.
How would you engage children that are shy or quiet? Pip- “I would ask them why don’t you try new things, ask them to try our new game, and help them to make new friends. I would introduce them and go around in a circle and ask them to say their names to meet everyone to make friends, so they can all play together”.
How have you shown you’re responsible with young children? Pip- “I feel like I have been responsible with others in my class and other children, because I am letting them join in and being nice and friendly, not taking over the game and just letting it flow”.
Given the chance to lead any activity for young people, what would you choose and how would you do this? Pip- “Well, I would suggest things and maybe I’d mix games together, make it easier or harder for them and I’d let them just play as it’s not my duty to just boss them around, it’s my duty to support people and let them have fun. I would like to teach sharks with the hoops, as it is easy, I’d also use balls by throwing them and making the game really fun”.
What qualities do you think a young activity leader should have? Pip- “They should be supportive, they should want to teach kids, help people and be humble, not be bossy, otherwise they won’t want to play with you again”.
